The 2010 Flood: First Walkthrough of the House

On Thursday afternoon, the water finally drained enough for Maria and her family to take their first walkthrough of her grandmother's house. What follows are the pictures they took on this trip.

Not all of the house could be reached on this trip - all that was accessible downstairs were the utility room, the office, and the hallway. The remainder of the house was inaccessible due to blocking at the doors, and pieces would either have to be moved or the doors broken down due to swelling.

And, unsurprisingly, the brownish tint to everything is sludge and mud left behind by the water. Maria estimates that it's at least one inch deep everywhere, including inside the house.

Tomorrow will hopefully bring the opportunity to see more of the house, as well as the first investigations of the barn and the farm buildings.
