The Thoughts for December 2006

Here, you can browse my erratically updated blog. Just a head's up: there are times I manage to update this daily, and other times where I will somehow go months. If you're really obsessed with me, I recommend checking out my Twitter page, to which I post far more frequently. (You can see the latest five posts below.)

I do keep all of my older thoughts pages archived onto the site in case you're truly bored. If you'd like to browse the archives, click here.

December 16, 2006

So, a couple of days ago, Maria writes the following on her MySpace page (you won't be able to read it unless you're a member of MySpace and Maria's friend):

"Third, we are dealing with some medical issues with Josh. We will know more in the next week or two."

Yeah. That didn't cause a ton of messages and e-mails asking about my health. Sigh. For clarification purposes , let me explain the "medical issues".

1. The day before Maria wrote this, I had gotten some dirt or something in my eye while at work. As anyone who wears contacts knows, this can lead to your eye getting made pretty dang uncomfortable, and maybe even dried out/raw for a while. This is what happened. Admittedly, it was pretty bad--I went without contacts the next day, as my eye was still a bit uncomfortable--but, as I told her, a couple of days without contacts, and some sleep, and all was fine. She did not believe me. Look who's right now! WHOO HOO!

2. I have had a sore on my leg for a while--over a year. Nothing major or serious--the doctor called it a "skin tag", and said it's harmless. Well, in the last couple of weeks, it has gotten pretty sore and tender to the touch. It also seems to be a little discolored. So the doctor is going to remove it on Tuesday. Should be no big deal--she says it should be harmless, and is nothing to worry about, but they will examine it anyways and make sure, once they remove it. No big deal--getting it done before I head to work Tuesday morning.

3. When I went to get the skin tag checked out, they took my blood pressure, and it was just a tad high. Nothing really to worry about--they told me that Paxil has a tendency to elevate blood pressure sometimes, and besides it's Christmas/exam week/etc. Still, they just told me to keep an eye on it.

See? Nothing big to worry about.

Other news and notes:

- As mentioned, it is exam week. The term is almost done, and I'm a bit relieved. I love my first block, and like my third block okay, but I'm ready for a break, and ready for some new kids. Of course, I have to get through exams. Made my English exam last week...now I have to pull a newspaper exam out of my ass, despite my firm belief that there is no reason for my newspaper kids to have to take an exam. Not my choice, though.

- Kids took the Gateway last week. Still waiting to see how they did. High hopes, though.

- The iPod debacle is finished. Basically, they lost my old iPod; Maria went in a few days after my last update to check on it, and they had the records saying that it had been back for two weeks. After a LONG lecture to the managers, Maria finally ascertained that they had completely lost it. The upshot? Got a free upgrade--a 30G video iPod. Sweet!

- Did my Christmas shopping today. Ever since getting married, I do very little of it, since Maria is much better at it (and enjoys shopping). However, for some reason, she won't buy her own presents. Loser. So I went shopping tonight. Can't say it's my favorite thing, but I will say that having an iPod to tune out the rest of the world (and the incessant terrible Christmas music) makes the whole experience much better.

- Monday is our ("our" here referring to "Maria and I") two year anniversary. I know--I'm surprised she hasn't killed me yet. (I had 2 months in the pool.) We are going to a nice restaurant at the Opryland Hotel, and walking around to see the lights, all sans baby. Good times.

- Baby is doing well. He is starting to teethe, though...not a fun time, I have to say. But mostly, he is healthy and happy. He is also taking pretty well to the cereal feedings finally; I think it just took him a little bit of time to realize that this crazy stuff was actually food.

- Yes, we have some new pictures of him; we got his Santa pictures taken, and they're very cute. We also have some pictures with my grandfather and grandmother, who came through town a bit back to see him. All came out good; I just have to find time to upload them. I'm working on it, I promise.

- Finished The Wire. You probably didn't watch it. Your loss.

- Finished Hannibal Rising. You probably didn't read it. Lucky you.

- Saw The Fountain. You probably didn't see it. I have no idea if you're glad or sad, but I loved it.

More to say, probably, but it's pretty likely that most of you didn't make it this far anyways. So go enjoy your Christmas season.
